You might think there's nowhere else your table can go - you might be wrong.
I have never been happy with the position of my kitchen table and until this weekend I had two positions for it in the room - sometimes I have it running horizontally across the room and sometimes vertically. Neither felt very good and I kept thinking that I must get a new table; it must be the table's fault tha the whole room was somehow uncomfortable.
Then after friends left on Saturday night, I was just about to put it back into one of its two awful positions when I thought I'd try it up against the window. It's not an obvious spot of it - cutting at a slightly bizarre angle across the room and jutting out so that you have to navigate your way around it to the kitchen. But when I swung it into position, it was like finding the combination to a safe - the whole room suddenly looked amazing. Strange really, because it is badly in need of redecoratig but, shabby though it was, it had honestly come to life.
I put the flowers one of my friends had brought me on the table - they looked amazing too.
I left the table there and the next morning I came down to find my teenage daughter doing her art homework on table, there by the window. She normally does it in her bedroom.
On the Monday morning, my son, who always takes his breakfast into the telly room, said he thought he would sit at the table for a change.
And that night, I got a takeaway and we ate together as a family at the table for the first time in ages.
Moving that table, has really changed our lifestyle. I love that room now and could wait an age to redecorate it (a year at least, I reckon). Ever moved a piece of furniture and found it made a massive difference? I feel like moving a few more things around now!
