It took hours to find our TV remote, but it was so worth looking for it!
The arguments started just before Kate walked up the aisle last Friday - my son wanted to watch Top Gear. 'Watch it in my bedroom,' I said, but he couldn't find the remote control, and you can't even turn the telly on without it. We watched the wedding up until the hymns and my son coped, but the TV tension wasn't over. It reared its ugly head so many times over the bank holiday weekend. With just one TV in the house we were a vile crew, bickering and miserable!
And each time someone wailed for a lost TV show, I would search the bedroom, move the bed, throw things off shelves and look in shoes that the little black box might have fallen into. Nada. By Sunday night the room literally looked like a bomb had hit it, and the realisation fell upon me like a brick from a great height: I would have to turn the room upside down or I would never find the thing and there would never be peace again.
And so the job began... I turfed out everything in my wardrobe, in my drawers, on my shelves. Bin bags were filled up with clothes for recycling and books for the charity shop. It took me hours - I hadn't realised what an awful state that room was in! Anyhow, finally, last night at about 5pm I saw the much-wanted little black machine. It had fallen into the bottom drawer of my chest of drawers. 'I've got it!' I shouted.
But guess what? The batteries were missing! Argh!!! So we were still a one-TV family last night. The only plus-side of spending May Day sorting through my cupboards is that my bedroom now looks so gorgeous! I think it was the most neglected room in the house. So, no, I don't hate that little machine that had me running around in circles, because this morning I could lay my hand to everything I wanted as I dressed for work. I like this spring cleaning lark. Going to do some more of it. What room in your home do you think most needs clearing out?
