A miraculous furniture polish and a great night out

A real treat for my piano and for me...

by Carol Muskoron

I had two truly wonderful musical treats yesterday...

Treat No 1: I used Bald's Original Furniture Balm on my scratched hundred-year-old walnut piano - and the scratches disappeared! I've tried other polishes and they never quite did the trick. I took both of the pictures of the wood (left) with exactly the same lighting - one before using Bald's and one afterwards. Amazing eh?! You can buy Bald's here at John Lewis and here at Lakeland - it comes in a natty little old-fashioned bottle, is easy to apply and it smells gorgeous! The whole room looks brighter and has had lift because the piano shines. Must get someone to play it properly one day - I pling along on it practising my grade three pieces and not getting very far - still, I enjoy my plinging, and the piano is the one piece of 'furniture' in the house that I really adore.

Treat No 2: I went to see 'Lend me a Tenor' at the Gielgud Theatre in London - what a hoot! I was transported to the 1930s with beautiful sets and costumes, fabulous music and gentle farcical drama. It really is very funny and it's such a slick West End production. I noticed there were a lot of in-jokes for opera fans and I think anyone whose done amateur dramatics would find it particularly funny, but basically it's a wonderful piece of escapism from the modern world. The allaboutyou travel shop does Superbreak deals offering theatre tickets and accommodation all in one, and 'Lend me a Tenor' is one of the plays on offer at the mo. Check out the prices here

Bye for now

Carol

PS My next musical treat is to see Tom Jones - can hardly wait...
