A gorgeous girlie bible
Every now and then I get massively excited by a book that I just have to have. The last time it happened it was Nigel Slater's Appetite - I knew I would make so much from it! I loved the cover! I knew it would look so good on my kitchen shelf! This time it's a craft book that's got me frothing at the mouth...
It's the gorgeous State of Craft - a book bubbling with funky craft ideas and sound craft know-how that I know will be an amazing reference book and a source of massive inspiration. The editor of the book Victoria Woodcock reckons craft is a state of mind; a state that needs to be encouraged. Owning State of Craft means you will not only always be able to make a basic pom pom (why do I always forget how?), you will always be able to teach yourself new things and always be able to open your mind to the wonderful possibilities that craft brings - to your home, to your wardrobe and to your friends and family (it's an amazing source of gift ideas).
I think it's a great book to buy for a teenage girl - it will keep her off drugs and sex for a few years and will remain on her shelf until and beyond the point where she needs a pattern for a moustache disguise (and yes, the book includes one). Already marked out to make in my copy are: the rope summer sandals, the giant gold letter (am thinking will do them in silver and have 'COOK' on my kitchen wall) and the découpage chair - how gorgeous is that?!

PS I know this blog is sexist and so hereby suggest that any male with an interest in craft gets this book too.
