Starting the Chris James 12-day detox cleanse diet
After an abysmal start last week - a 'non-start' if you will - I woke up this weekend determined to start the 12-day Chris James Mind and Body Cleanse. I've been preparing all week; I signed up to the Chris James website and posted on the forums asking for advice.
What I didn't do was buy any food, so I woke up Sunday morning after a night out, starving, with the realisation there wasn't a single thing in the house I could eat. Waiting until day one to shop is a bad idea - Chris James advises against it and I wish I'd listened. The supermarket shelves were bursting with delicious things I couldn't have as I wandered around looking for organic carrots and lentils and pumpkin seeds. Never has a packet of uncooked pasta looked so inviting. And you can't imagine the carnage in the biscuit aisle.
Still, by the end of the day I wasn't feeling so bad. I'd enjoyed the variety of fruit I'd eaten, dinner was a tasty vegetable stir-fry - which I often eat anyway - and I had a couple of oat cakes with hummus as a treat before bed. I'd livened up the stir-fry with a squeeze of lemon juice some sea salt - mercifully there is sea salt on the 'allowed' list, and it turns out to be much nicer than table salt anyway. Easy!
