What do vegetables and rabbits have in common?
Apart from the obvious link that rabbits eat vegetables there is also the fact that both bunnies and veg are often ignored. So this week's two vital messages are...
(1) You wouldn't keep a cat in a box in the garden and ignore it, so don't do it to a rabbit. Rabbits are clever, characterful animals that are fast becoming trendy as house pets and give just as much affection as cats and dogs. My house bun Audrey has been with me for three years - she watches the BBC news with me every morning - highly intelligent animals, as I said! There are currently 30,000 rescue rabbits in centres in the UK - think 'rescue bun' before heading to the pet shop; but beware, it will be hard to leave a bunny rescue centre without taking a bun (or two) along with you.
(2) Don't treat the veg in the supermarket as if it's a mere side dish. Check here for brilliant veggie inspiration that'll help you make main courses out of wonderful, colourful, nutritious veg. But beware, it will be hard to leave a supermarket without taking tons of veg along with you, once you've seen our recipes!
In case you hadn't guessed it is both National Vegetarian Week and Rabbit Awareness Week right now. I have a feeling it might also be Sandwich Week but I won't go into the plight of the ignored sandwich. I'll just give you this Ultimate Toastie recipe to be getting along with.
Bye for now
Carol
PS The pic above is of my Audrey and her 'husbun' Harrison in their ample garden run that allows them to kick out with their huge back legs as rabbits should!
