MoonWalk here we come...
Next month, for the third year running (or power walking) the Good Housekeeping team will join the 15,000 women and men on a half or a full marathon through the night, showing off our decorated bras to raise funds for the UKs biggest grant-making breast cancer charity, Walk the Walk. Read on to find out how we're training for this fantastic event and follow this blog to keep up with the highs and lows of the Good Housekeeping MoonWalk team between now and 12 May.
My first MoonWalk London last year was one of the best experiences of my life. Up there with the taste of my mothers roast potatoes, and the elation I felt when I got my first job after university. Id never felt anything like the buzz of lining up with thousands and thousands of people, all united in our determination to help beat breast cancer, and baring our bras to prove it.
When I started training for last years walk, I struggled to get through my first four-mile training session, and arrived at work a breathless, windswept mess. But my walking partners and I trained hard, and we made it to the big night. The last few miles were tough but adrenaline carried us through, and with a final burst of energy we stormed through the finishing line and threw our arms up in the air, still holding hands.
This time round, its a different story. Ive kept up my regular walks, and havent gone back to my bad habits. I relish my four-mile walk into work most days, and Im hoping that after some longer weekend training sessions with friends, Ill be ready for the half-marathon on May 12. I cant wait to storm through that finishing line again. Bring it on!
If youre joining us on May 12, do comment and let us know how youre getting on and come back next week to find out how the rest of the Good Housekeeping team are handling the training...
