Making the most of the year ahead
I love the New Year fresh with possibilities and plans. And this year Im determined to do things before we hit February and the realisation the plans have all gone astray ... So this year Im going to:
Become a member of a gallery. I joined the Tate a few years ago and like it so much that this year I might do another one! Maybe the V&A, which is definitely one of the most beautiful galleries in London and probably the world. Membership, for wherever you choose, allows you to visit as many exhibitions you like without paying (or queuing) a particularly good deal with Tate as it has galleries in London, Liverpool and St Ives. You also get other benefits like invites to special member events and previews, magazines and information booklets in the post, and use of exclusive members rooms. Sometimes I just visit Tate Modern to sit in the lovely members room overlooking the Thames and St Pauls. Find out about membership packages for the Tate and the V&A just click on the gallery name.
Read more. Ive got off to a good start already, almost finishing Jonathan Franzens The Corrections which I got for Christmas, as well as working my way through Raymond Carver's collected short stories. I love reading but often just dont make the time for it. Im going to watch less TV and read instead. Maybe Ill get rid of the TV! I suppose joining a book club might force me to be even more diligent about my reading, but somehow it seems a bit too much like going back to school. Maybe an online book club would be a better idea?
Walk more. And I have just the thing to help me here www.myfitnesspal.com. The website that calculates my ideal daily calorie intake based on the weight Id like to be in February (devoid of my Christmas cake fat). The more walking I do, the more calories it allows me to eat. ( Read more here). Ill be using our walking guide to help me plan featuring over 100 walks throughout the UK. But even if I just walk down the road for a bit it will be an improvement.
