A ground-breaking charitable concert
'None of us can move forward if half of us are held back...'
No, it's not lyrics from Beyoncé's latest song; it's even more meaningful. It's part of the Chime for Change campaign, founded by Gucci, whose motto is: 'Education. Health. Justice. For every girl. Every woman. Everywhere'.
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is one of the co-founders of the campaign, along with Salma Hayek, and is headlining The Sound of Change Live concert in London's Twickenham Stadium on June 1 2013. Also on the bill are Florence and the Machine, Jennifer Lopez and Ellie Goulding.
This is a ground-breaking concert, where ticket-buyers can choose how to spend the charitable portion of the ticket's cost.
Chime for Change, through its partner Catapult, encourages people to support girls and womens projects in a personalised way. Catapult is the first crowd-funding platform dedicated to advancing the lives of girls and women. Catapult connects Chime for Change community members directly to organisations and projects focused on the causes that matter most to them, and currently represents over 50 organisations in 38 countries. This is the emergency and the opportunity of today, said Gucci Creative Director and Chime for Change co-founder Frida Giannini. We have reached a significant moment in the history of girls and womens empowerment and now is the time for change. I think it is essential for girls and women to see and celebrate what is possible. I hope that through Chime we can help the voices calling for change to become so loud that they cannot be ignored.
Viewers around the world will also have the opportunity to lend their support by donating online at chimeforchange.org and fb.com/chimeforchange, and through a mobile text-to-give campaign.
