GH Editorial Director Lindsay fears for her feet
Next month, for the third year running (or power walking) the Good Housekeeping team will join the 15,000 women and men on a half or a full marathon through the night, showing off our decorated bras to raise funds for the UKs biggest grant-making breast cancer charity, Walk the Walk. Read on to find out how we're training for this fantastic event and follow this blog to keep up with the highs and lows of the Good Housekeeping MoonWalk team between now and 12 May.
Lindsay says:
Mainly these past few weeks, I have been thinking about my feet. Thinking about Moaning about Worrying about And generally boring my nearest and dearest to death about them, in fact. And it's all my own fault.
I developed "footwear issues" halfway through the training because I was relying on a pair of old faithfuls that had got me through two Half Moons in the past, not realising that meant they were comprehensively knackered and needed replacing. So I had to get fitted for a new pair of Asics in late March (NB for the future do anything you can to to avoid this!) and ever since I have been fighting an ongoing battle to break them in while keeping up my miles for the Full Moon. I should have bought shares in Compeed given the number of blister plasters I've got through. And my sock philosophy could run to several thousands words if I wrote it down (which you will be glad to hear, I won't).
But now in the final countdown to the big night, my new trainers have finally surrendered and moulded themselves to the shape of my feet. While the reduced mileage means the aches and pains in my insteps have receded. I'm still suffering from a stubbed toe but that was due to not looking where I was going and there's no accounting for stupidity. So as far as I am concerned there is no finer word in the English language than "tapering". Roll on Saturday!
If youre joining us on May 12, do comment and let us know how youre getting on and come back next week to find out how the rest of the Good Housekeeping team are handling the training...
