Getting behind the scenes at Buckingham Palace
I thought I had discovered that the Queen was a Yardley Lily of the Valley girl the other day when I found out that Yardley holds two royal warrants - but no, turns out it's their soap she favours. So if you find yourself in Buckingham Palace anytime in the future, at least the guest soaps will be nice and familiar.
Mind you, the packaging on the brand's latest release - Royal English Daisy perfume - bears a striking resemblance to the outfit the Queen chose for the recent royal wedding! What a coincidence that Catherine Middleton, the new Duchess of Cambridge, was the inspiration behind the fragrance ...
And I didn't know until recently that By Royal Appointment to the Queen status means the Queen uses the product regularly - I thought it was just an honorary seal of approval. And it's withdrawn if she stops using it.
So I now know the Queen likes to drink Twinnings tea, Robinson's squash and Carlsberg, is partial to a bowl of Quaker Oats in the morning, livens up her food with a dash of Lea and Perrins and - like the rest of us - heads to John Lewis for her haberdashery.
