Two brilliant cake decorating cheats

Fuss-free ways to decorate cakes

by Alice Jones

Make a mess when icing cakes? Yep, me too. But I've found two icing products that make it so much easier...

Snip and Swirl by Renshaw (£2.99) is brilliant if you want a professional finish. All you do is snip open the icing bag in a zigzag pattern and squeeze on your swirly icing - no mixing, no mess and a perfect finish. I loved the strawberry flavour best.

Shaped like a salt or pepper grinder, the clever people at Whitworths have designed their Twist and Sprinkle Icing Sugar (£2.29) with a mini sieve on top. I'm always losing my sieve or finding it dirty just when I need it. And a dusting of icing sugar is such a simple and effective way of decorating any cake.
