Are you ringing in the Olympics: 8.12am on Friday 27th?

Ring any bell, anywhere...

by Adrienne Wyper

No Olympic tickets? Not seen the torch? Never mind, you can still take part in the launch of the Olympics. At 8.12am on Friday July 27, ring any bell you have for three minutes.

The idea is a piece by Turner Prize-winning artist and musician Martin Creed, called 'Work No. 1197: All the bells in a country rung as quickly and as loudly as possible for three minutes'. It's a London 2012 Festival commission and will be performed by all of us!

I'll be furiously dinging my bicycle bell, and my dad, who's staying at the moment, will do the same on my other bike. A surreal way to be part of the Cultural Olympiad...
