Will The Descendants bag George the Best Actor Oscar?
Those in the know seem to think Clooney's Best Actor Oscar is in the bag already but after seeing 'The Descendants', which opens this weekend, I'm not so sure. While George turns his hand very well to wry middle-age humour, his tortured angst is not so convincing.
With a wife in a near-death coma and daughters throwing the strops from hell, it's hardly the time to find out aforesaid wife has been living a secret life behind his back. While also steering through a multi-million dollar property deal that has his entire home town up in arms. But I'm left feeling a bit 'oh well' *shrug* about it all. It's the perfect rainy Sunday afternoon film but lacks the sort of engagement you want from your Oscar winners.
Still, George, as always, is pleasant to look at. And if he doesn't get the Oscar (for which he's nominated alongside Gary Oldman for 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy', Brad Pitt for 'Moneyball', Damian Bichir for 'A Better Life' and Jean Dujardin for 'The Artist'), he can always console himself with making the cut for the AAY favourite silver foxes. Though he missed out on our 2012 Valentine sweethearts - 10 men we love - you can see them here ...
'The Descendants' is released on Friday Jan 27 and is nominated for Best Actor, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Film Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay Oscars. See the full list of Oscar nominations here
