Film and chocolate for Christmas

by Bernadette Fallon

The new Paddington film opens today, November 28, with a beautiful Paddington bear. If you found this bear with a note round his neck saying ‘Please look after this bear’, you would, you really would!

Starring alongside one of the most famous bears in the world, are Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins as Mr and Mrs Brown, the lucky couple who do get to take Paddington home from the station they find him in. Reading an interview with Paddington earlier this week, he revealed he is very pleased not to have been found in ‘Waterloo’ or ‘Marylebone’ stations – Marylebone, what a mouthful for a poor little bear.

Pictured here is Paddington creator Michael Bond, with Paddington station’s new ‘Paddington’, part of London’s Paddington Trail, created by VisitLondon.com, the NSPCC and STUDIOCANAL, sponsored by Barclaycard. Bears were designed by the likes of David Beckham, Mayor Boris Johnson, Benedict Cumberbatch and Nicole Kidman (who plays the villain in the film). Keep an eye out for them around the city if you’re visiting London at Christmas.

Find out more about the film here, for further details on the trail see www.visitlondon.com/paddington

.
However if you want to stay holed up indoors over Christmas, you’ll be needing a good box set. Forget Breaking Bad – so over! The latest much-watch, particularly for lovers of ER and Gray’s Anatomy, is Saving Hope, a medical drama with a twist (one of the doctors sees ghosts … eat your heart out Clooney). Season 2 is out December 8, order it here.

And, if you need some munchies while watching, might we point you in the direction of our favourite Irish chocolate maker, Lily O’Brien. Available from Waitrose nationwide, our favourite is the Chocolate Treasures Collection featuring a selection of chocolates in a stylish, three-tier jewellery box in festive colours, this is sure to be a welcome gift for chocolate lovers. It costs £10.

Fancy a tipple at the end of the evening? Choose a do-gooding wine. Vin2o is an online retailer that donates a percentage of profits to Pump Aid, an award-winning UK charity providing water pumps to communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Find out more here. Wines are sourced from smaller producers who make interesting wine with good sustainable or ethical credentials. It’s a good Christmas story. To share over a bottle of wine.
