Add floral cuffs to gardening gloves: free sewing pattern

gardening gloves

You will need

• Fabric gardening gloves
• 20cm of 140cm-wide fabric
• Matching thread

How to make

1. Measure the circumference of one glove opening. Adding a 2cm seam allowance, cut a rectangle of paper to this length x 18cm. Make three evenly spaced slits in the paper and spread them by 3cm, pinning them onto a larger piece of paper. Add 1cm at bottom of both sides, as shown in the diagram (below), and cut out a curved paper pattern for the gauntlet.

2. Use this to cut out four pieces of fabric. With right sides together, pin and stitch sides of two fabric pieces together, taking 1cm seam allowances. Press seam allowances open, then pin and stitch together around lower curved edge, taking 1cm seam allowances. Turn right side out
and press. Topstitch close to the edge. Neaten top edges of the gauntlet together.

3. Slip one gauntlet over one glove with narrower edge of gauntlet aligned with opening of glove, and stitch together. Turn right side out and repeat for second glove.
