Make an ombré-dyed scarf
Dip into the two-tone craze and transform a plain piece of muslin into a vibrant sexy scarf
We used Dylon Fabric Dye For Hand Use (£3.49, www.dylon.co.uk). Follow the instructions on the packet to mix up the dye. You will also need salt to fix the colour. We used 50cm of 150cm-wide cotton muslin.
Overlock or turn under and stitch a narrow hem around outer edges.
Wash scarf and leave damp. Prepare hand dye according to pack instructions, in a plastic bucket.
Place scarf over a length of dowelling (as shown below), so both ends can be dipped into dye at same time.
To achieve ombré effect, dip scarf into bucket up to where you want colour to end and quickly pull it out a little way. Gradually pull ends of scarf out of dye. The colour will be darkest on ends of scarf that have been left in dye longest.
Wash and rinse and twist so it dries crinkled.
