Toni & Guy Deep Barrel Waver
Party season is a great excuse for ‘look at me hair’; it’s the time of year when you can really put oomph in your style and pull out all the stops. We found Toni & Guy’s Deep Barrel Waver to be a great little gadget for doing just that – and what better way to guarantee yourself an entrance than with a show-stopping dress, killer heels and cascading curls tumbling about your shoulders?
The heat settings on this gadget – all 25 of them - make it easy to get the type of curl you want, without the need for trial and error. Turn it high for a strong bouncy wave, lower for a more gentle curl. And as the plates are treated with ceramic tourmaline, you’ll be left with a glossy, shiny finish as well.
The instructions are easy to follow and the waves stayed in exceptionally well – so rest assured, you won’t be the shrinking violet in the corner after half an hour in the heat!

We debated this one long and hard in the office. Yes, brilliant if you want a throwback to ‘80s hair – and I would have killed for this as a teenage ‘Jackie’ reader when it looked like all the cool girls had crimped hair. But it’s a bold brave move putting out a product that is only a crimper when there are so many multi-tasking straightening/curling/make-you-a-cup-of-tea hair tools on the market. Or maybe not. Maybe Toni & Guy are privy to a hair crimping revolution that we know nothing of.
But, functionality debate over, it was time to review this on its own terms. And, as it does just one thing, it has put the technology in place to do it well – so you just slide the crimper through hair sections to instantly ‘crimp’. Having said that, it will take you a few gos to get the hang of it – but once you do, it’s all very straightforward. The waves stay in place for a few hours – use a setting spray for best results.
