Sew a 'home' appliqué cushion: free sewing pattern

home cushion

Cut two rectangles 33cm x 48cm for the back and one square 48cm x 48cm for the front. Enlarge templates to desired size and trace onto Bondaweb. Iron onto reverse of chosen fabrics and cut out.

Remove Bondaweb backing and position in centre of 48cm x 48cm square of cushion fabric. Iron in place and zigzag stitch around edges. Press under and stitch a 1.5cm hem across one long edge of each back. With right sides together, lay backs on top of cushion front so hemmed edges overlap.

Pin and stitch around outer edge, taking a 1.5cm seam allowance. Trim seam allowances to 5mm and zigzag stitch to finish the seams. Turn right side out and press. Insert a 45cm x 45cm cushion pad.

Cushion pads, John Lewis (0845 604 9049). Plain fabrics, Laura Ashley (0871 230 2301). Printed fabrics, Cath Kidston (0845 026 2440). Striped fabrics, The Cloth House (020 7437 5155).
