What is bias binding?
Bias binding is the term for strips of fabric, cut on the bias (at 45° to the straight grain), used to give a neat, finished edge to fabric. As it has some stretch to it, it's particularly useful on curved edges, because it can wrap the curve smoothly, which wouldn't be the case with straight-cut fabric.
You can buy ready-made bias binding in lots of colours and patterns, to match or contrast with the main fabric. It's available online from MacCulloch and Wallis, Hobbycraft and John Lewis (among others).
You can also make your own bias binding, from the fabric you're using, or another contrasting fabric. You can use a special bias binding maker gadget or simply an iron - you'll also need a ruler and a fabric marking pen or tailor's chalk.
