Sew a pretty drawstring washbag: free sewing pattern

wash bag to sew

Cut a 60cm x 23cm rectangle of fabric and one of waterproof lining. Fold fabric in half and stitch sides, taking 1cm seam allowance. Repeat for lining. Press fabric seam allowances open and turn right side out.

Insert lining with right side inside and line up side seams. Turn under 1cm then 3cm around top. Pin and stitch. Unpick a few stitches at side seams on right side of casing to thread drawstrings through, and work a few stitches each side of opening to secure seam.

Cut two pieces of cord 50cm long. Thread first piece through one of side seam openings right around bag and knot ends. Repeat from opposite side of bag.

Fabric, Cath Kidston (0845 026 2440). Shower curtaining (for lining) and cord, John Lewis (0845 604 9049)
