Make a tweed clutch bag: free sewing pattern
Create a sophisticated tweed clutch bag with this pattern, first published in February 2009
Cut two rectangles 25cm x 44cm, one from tweed fabric and one from lining. Cut a rectangle 25cm x 44cm from heavyweight interfacing. Tack interfacing, centrally positioned, to wrong side of tweed. Fold edges of tweed over interfacing, making neat mitres at corners, and catchstitch to interfacing. Press under 1.5cm around edge of lining. Tack and slipstitch to tweed.
Fold up 11cm from bottom and slipstitch in place at sides. Attach a Velcro dot to fasten bag.
To make knot trim, cut a rectangle of tweed 22cm x 4cm. Machine stitch close to outer edge to minimise fraying. Tie strip in a knot and stitch to right side of bag flap.
Tip: If you can't find suitable heavyweight interfacing, use two or more layers of a lighter weight, or collar felt (used in tailoring) for a softer finish.
