Sew a Christmas table runner - templates
Templates and stitching for the table runner
Here is the template for the table runner, plus stitch key, and stitching instructions.
Backstitch
Work from right to left. Bring the needle to the front, one stitch length to the left of the start of the stitching line. Insert it one stitch length to the right, at the start of the line, and bring it up one stitch length from the front of the point from which it first appeared. Pull the thread through. To continue, insert the needle at the left-hand end of the previous stitch.
Whipped backstitch
Work a line of backstitches, slightly longer than usual. Slide a blunt needle under the thread of the first backstitch from top to bottom and pull the thread through. Repeat in each stitch.
Bullion knot
This is similar to a French knot, but creates a longer coil of thread.
Come up at A and go down at B, leaving a loose loop of threadthe distance from A to B should be the length of knot required. Come back up at A and wrap the thread around the needle five to eight times. Hold the wrapped thread in place with your free hand and pull the needle all the way through. Insert the needle at B and pull through.
