Christmas Crafting in No Time table runner to sew - Sew a Christmas table runner: free sewing pattern - Christmas table decorations - Craft - allaboutyou.com

Create a lovely light and elegant table setting with a white table runner, simply embroidered with a pretty red heart. With the addition of a little foliage and festive candles down the centre of the table, you have a warm and welcoming Nordic look to host your celebration meals.

You will need

• White cotton or linen 100cm x 140cm
• Pins
• Tracing paper
• Air-erasable pen or dressmaker’s pencil
• Dressmaker’s carbon paper
• Embroidery needle
• Red embroidery thread
• Sewing machine and matching thread

How to make this

Click the 'print' button at the top of the page to print out this project, complete with templates.

Click here to see the template and stitch guide, on page 2.

Fold the piece of fabric in half across its width so it measures 50cm x 140cm. Mark the centre of one short edge using a pin.

Place a sheet of dressmaker’s carbon paper on one end of the runner and position the heart design centred on the width, 22cm up from the short edge. Place the template on top and transfer the design onto the fabric. Repeat to mark out the design on the other end of the runner.

Embroider the design with whipped backstitch and bullion knots using red embroidery thread.

Refold the fabric so the red heart design is now on the inside.

Pin the sides together and machine stitch a 1cm seam around all the edges including the folded edge. Make sure you leave a 12cm gap along one of the longer edges.

Trim the seam allowance and turn right-side-out using the 12cm gap in the stitching.

Pin and hand stitch the gap closed.

Press to finish.
