Sew a ribbon-trimmed toy hedgehog: free sewing pattern
Use oddments of fabric and ribbon to make this cute creature - a great toy for kids to play with!
You will need
● Oddment of cotton fabric
● 1m in total of 10mm-wide ribbon in assorted colours
● Matching thread
● Black embroidery thread
● Small black pompom
● Polyester toy stuffing
● Glue suitable for fabric
To make
Enlarge the template (below) to around 14cm high. Cut two hedgehog pieces from fabric. Cut 11 lengths of different-colour ribbons, each measuring 8cm. Twist and fold in half to form loops. Pin the twisted loops to the right side of one hedgehog piece, arranged evenly, and starting 3cm above bottom back edge and finishing 9cm from the nose end. Tack in place.
With right sides facing, pin and stitch the hedgehog pieces together, taking 1cm seam allowance and leaving a gap at the lower edge for turning through. Snip turnings around curves.
Fold bottom corner with seams matching and stitch across for 4cm as shown. Turn right side out and press. Fill with polyester toy stuffing. Sew up gap in stitching. Stitch French knots for eyes. Glue on pompom for nose.
