Two simple cushion-cover patterns by Erika Knight
A simple square cushion cover made in double and treble crochet and worked in varying widths of stripes and colours. The back is soft corduroy fabric but could be worked in crochet, too.

Materials
Stripe 1 cushion (mostly neutral stripe)
● Rowan Lenpur Linen, a double-knitting-weight linen yarn, or any other standard DK yarn in 6 colours:
● A 1 x 50g ball in dark brown (570 Pueblo)
● B 1 x 50g ball in ecru (571 Blanch)
● C 1 x 50g ball in taupe (566 Tattoo)
● D 1 x 50g ball in light beige (572 Rye)
● E 1 x 50g ball in lime green (564 Zest)
● F 1 x 50g ball in bright pink (563 Vivid)
Stripe 2 cushion (all colour stripe)
Rowan Lenpur Linen, a double-knitting-weight linen yarn, or any other standard DK yarn in 9 colours:
● A 1 x 50g ball in dark brown (570 Pueblo)
● B 1 x 50g ball in ecru (571 Blanch)
● C 1 x 50g ball in taupe (566 Tattoo)

● E 1 x 50g ball in lime green (564 Zest)
● F 1 x 50g ball in bright pink (563 Vivid)

Both cushions
● 3.5mm crochet hook
● 43cm square of fabric for backing, such as lightweight corduroy or linen, and matching thread
● Feather cushion pad to fit finished cushion cover
Tension
17 stitches and 10 rows to 10cm measured over treble crochet using a 3.5mm hook.

Special pattern note
Pay careful attention to how to work double crochet into a row of treble crochet stitches (as in row 5 of the Stripe 1 Cushion or row 3 of the Stripe 2 Cushion) and also how to work treble crochet into a row of double crochet stitches (as in row 7 of the Stripe 1 Cushion or row 4 of the Stripe 2 Cushion).
One chain is worked at the beginning of each row of double crochet but this does NOT count as a stitch; three chains are worked at the beginning of each row of treble crochet and this does count as a stitch. Count your stitches frequently to make sure you always have 68 stitches in each row.
Foundation chain Using a 3.5mm hook and A, make 70 chain.
Row 1 1 tr in 4th ch from hook, 1 tr in each of remaining ch to end, turn. 68 sts.
Row 2 3 ch (counts as first tr), miss first tr in row below, *1 tr in next tr; rep from * to end, then work last tr in top of 3-ch at end, turn.
Rows 3 and 4 Using B, [repeat row 2] twice.
Row 5 Using B, 1 ch (does NOT count as a stitch), 1 dc in each tr to end, then work last dc in top of 3-ch at end, turn. 68 sts.
Row 6 Using C, 1 ch (does NOT count as a stitch), 1 dc in each dc to end, turn.
Row 7 Using B, 3 ch (counts as first tr), miss first dc in row below, *1 tr in next dc; rep from * to end, turn. 68 sts.
Row 8 Using C, work in dc (when working dc into a tr row, work as row 5).
Row 9 Using D, work in tr (when working tr into

Weave in any loose ends.
Lay work out flat and gently steam on wrong side.
Fabric cushion back
Press 1.5cm to wrong side all around edge of fabric piece for cushion back, so it is same size as crocheted front. Then tack this hem in place.
Pin crochet piece to wrong side of fabric, easing to fit if necessary. Tack in place through all layers around three sides. Using sewing thread, sew fabric back to front, leaving one side open. Remove tacking.
Insert cushion pad. Sew remaining side closed.
