Make your cut roses last longer
Roses for Valentine's Day? Here's how to look after them
A bouquet of red roses is a classic way to say 'I love you', and if you're lucky enough to receive a beautiful bunch (or even if you bought them yourself), you'll want to keep them fresh as long as possible.
Get your roses out of their wrapping and into a vase as soon as you can.
Make sure your vase is scrupulously clean, to remove any bacteria which could multiply and encourage decay.
Use cool, not freezing, water to fill the vase.
Remove any leaves which would be below the water line. These can rot and contaminate the water
Don't crush the end of the stems. Instead cut off the bottom inch, using sharp scissors and cutting at a slant.
Choose where to put your roses carefully. The warmer and brighter the room, the shorter the lifespan of your roses.
Roses can be thirsty, so check the water level and top up if necessary.
