Our arty Valentine’s card is easy enough for even quite young children to make. Simply fold a piece of A4 card in half and draw a heart shape lightly in pencil. Tear small pieces of brightly coloured pages from a magazine. Draw the same heart on a spare piece of paper and arrange the torn pieces into a pleasing collage within the outline. Transfer the pieces to the card and glue in place. Stick the large pieces first, then add pieces around the edge of the heart and fill in any gaps in the centre.

Fold a piece of card in half, or use a card blank. Sew and stuff a small fabric heart (click here for how to make a fabric heart). You can use scented petals or flower-heads as stuffing for an extra romantic touch. Fold a short length of ribbon in half, cross the two ends on top of the heart and stitch a button to hold the ribbon ends in place. Sew the loop end of the ribbon to the top of the front of the card.

Choose A4 white card with a glitter or shiny finish on one side. Cut card in half and fold in half - you could make two cards if you wish. Draw two hearts in pencil on the inside of the card. Carefully cut out half of each heart using a craft knife, then rub out your pencil marking. Fold half of each heart onto the right side of the card. Add kisses using a white correction pen.
