If you're planning a trip to one of our nearest neighbours, the countries in Europe, make sure you know what currency is used at your destination. Don't assume that they use the euro! Turning up with the wrong currency - which has happened to at least one seasoned traveller we know - is inconvenient to say the least.

The euro is the official curency of the eurozone, and is used by 19 of the 28 member states. These are:

Austria
Belgium
Cyprus
Estonia
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Ireland
Italy
Latvia
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Malta
Netherlands
Portugal
Slovakia
Slovenia
Spain

The euro is also used in certain countries that aren't part of the EU: Andorra, Monaco, Montenegro, San Marino and Vatican City.
