Tension
22 stitches and 28 rows to 10 cm (4 in) measured over stocking stitch using 4mm needles.

Tension check
It is essential to check your tension before beginning by knitting a swatch at least 15 cm square. If there are more stitches or rows to 10 cm (4 in) than stated, your knitting is tight and you should try again using larger size needles. If there are less stitches or rows to 10 cm (4 in) than stated, your knitting is loose and you should try again using smaller size needles.

Change to 4mm needles.

Starting with a K row, work in st st, dec 1 st at each end of 5th and 2 foll 6th rows. 89 (95, 101, 107, 113, 119) sts.

Chart note

Work as given for back to **. Inc 1 st at each end of next and foll 12th row. 93 (99, 105, 111, 117, 123) sts. Work 5 rows, ending with a ws row.

Place heart motif

Row 1: (rs) K27 (30, 33, 36, 39, 42), work next 39 sts as row 1 of heart motif chart, K27 (30, 33, 36, 39, 42).
Row 2: P27 (30, 33, 36, 39, 42), work next 39 sts as row 2 of heart motif chart, P27 (30, 33, 36, 39, 42).

These 2 rows set the sts - central 39 sts from heart motif chart with st st at sides.

Working appropriate rows of chart until chart row 50 has been completed and then completing front in st st throughout, cont as follows: Inc 1 st at each end of 5th and foll 12th row. 97 (103, 109, 115, 121, 127) sts. Shape front neck

Next row: (rs) K2, sl 1, K1, psso, K14 (14, 14, 16, 16, 16) and turn, leaving rem sts on a holder.
Work on this set of 17 (17, 17, 19, 19, 19) sts only for first side of neck.
Dec 1 st at neck edge of next 6 rows, then on foll 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3) alt rows and at same time dec 1 st at raglan armhole edge of 2nd and foll 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5) alt rows. 4 sts.
Work 1 row, ending with a ws row.
Next row: (rs) K1, sl 1, K2tog, psso.
Next row: P2.
Next row: K2tog and fasten off.

Change to 4mm needles.

Starting with a K row, work in st st, shaping sides by inc 1 st at each end of 5th and every foll 6th row to 61 (69, 67, 69, 77, 77) sts, then on every foll 8th row until there are 75 (77, 79, 81, 83, 85) sts.
Cont straight until sleeve measures 56 (56, 57, 57, 57, 58) cm, 22 (22, 22½, 22½, 22½, 22¾) in, from cast-on edge, ending with a ws row.

Shape raglan

Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 69 (71, 73, 75, 77, 79) sts.
Working all raglan armhole decreases as set by back, dec 1 st at each end of next 3 rows, then on every foll alt row until 23 sts rem.
Work 1 row, ending with a ws row.

Left sleeve only

Dec 1 st at each end of next row, then cast off 3 sts at beg of foll row. 18 sts. Dec 1 st at beg of next row, then cast off 4 sts at beg of foll row. 13 sts. Rep last 2 rows twice more.

Right sleeve only

Cast off 4 sts at beg and dec 1 st at end of next row. 18 sts. Work 1 row. Rep last 2 rows 3 times more.

Both sleeves

Cast off rem 3 sts.

Neckband

Join both front and right back raglan seams. With rs facing and using 3¾mm needles, pick up and knit 15 sts from top of left sleeve, 14 (14, 14, 15, 15, 15) sts down left side of front neck, 19 (21, 21, 21, 21, 21) sts from front, 14 (14, 14, 15, 15, 15) sts up right side of front neck, 15 sts from top of right sleeve, and 33 (35, 35, 37, 37, 37) sts from back.  110 (114,  114,  118, 118, 118) sts.

Beg with row 2, work in rib as given for back for 7 rows, ending with a ws row. Cast off in rib.

To make up

Join left back raglan and neckband seam. Join side and sleeve seams, reversing seam for first 12 cm (4¾ in) for turn-back. Fold 10 cm (4 in) to rs around lower edge of sleeve.
