Method

The base of this cosy is knitted in two rectangular pieces (front and back) in straightforward garter stitch with navy yarn. Contrasting colours are used to embroider onto the front piece.

Back
With 4mm needles and navy yarn cast on 20 sts. Work 27 rows even in g-st. Cast off loosely k-wise. Break off yarn.

Front
Work as for back but leaving a long tail for sewing up at the cast-on.

Making up
Either following the photo for guidance or embroidering your own ‘drawing', use darning needle and various contrasting colours to decorate the cosy on the front piece.

When you are happy with the way it looks, use the darning needle and the long tail at cast-on to sew the front and back together. Put the two pieces together with the cast-on edge down (this will be the opening as it will stretch more easily than the cast-off edge). Sew through both layers along the other three edges and then darn in any loose ends.
