Take it from us: if anyone ever calls you a control freak, they're being sarcastic. You're a relaxed, take-life-as-it-comes sort of person - and you'll never let the small stuff get you down. The only problem? By allowing other people to make most of your decisions for you, you may well stray away from your own goals and often end up going along with plans and projects that, deep inside, don't really interest you. So if you want to enjoy yourself and reach your true potential, it pays to get organised, review your priorities and take back some control. And how are you going to set about doing that? Yes, it's the dreaded to-do list! 'Write an achievable action plan of no more than six important things every night,' advises therapist Dominic Knight. 'In the morning, review your list and work through the most important one first. Don't move on to the second without completing the first.'

...which, of course, is no bad thing. You can be industrious and organised when the situation demands it - but you also know how to relax. Well done! All the same, it's a good idea to 'reboot your mind' from time to time - particularly when life gets very stressful and your to-do list is stretching out the front door. 'Just as computers tend to crash when you have too many programmes running at the same time, so do we,' says therapist Dominic Knight. 'A simple way to clear the clutter from your mind is to take regular 90-second breaks throughout the day. Practise having a "blank screen" in your mind and muting your inner dialogue. Remember, 95 per cent of how we feel is based on how we communicate with ourselves. So make sure your inner dialogue is positive and encouraging.'

Obviously, it's a good idea to be well-prepared and organised. But if you become obsessed with planning and overseeing every last detail of your own life - and the lives of those around you - you're only ever going to be disappointed. Spontaneity can be a wonderful thing - believe us! So try to go with the flow a little more. 'Others can see controlling people as arrogant, insensitive, unattractive and almost claustrophobic,' warns therapist Dominic Knight. 'To overcome your need to be controlling, you need to learn to trust others implicitly and recognise that everyone is as individual as their fingerprints. They're only ever doing what they feel is best - in just the same way you do what you feel is right. Try to accept them for who they are. And remember, the only way you can change how people respond to you is by changing yourself.'
