Mary Berry on Christmas, clothes and the next Great British Bake Off
Mary Berry, queen of cakes and baking, speaks to allaboutyou about staying stylish, working hard and how to make Christmas Day run that little bit smoother.
ALLABOUTYOU.COM: You’re known as quite a fashion icon these days, Mary. Where do you like to shop?
MARY: I like Marks and Spencer, I like Zara, I’ll choose nice, bright coloured things that I hope will suit me.
ALLABOUTYOU.COM: Do you choose your own funky jackets to wear on The Great British Bake Off?
MARY: Some of them I choose myself and sometimes I have a dresser or a stylist to help. Most of them I pick up over the winter.
ALLABOUTYOU.COM: Some of the jackets you’ve worn on The Great British Bake Off have flown off the shelves after you wore them! It must be a funny feeling to know people are inspired?
MARY: I just think people have realised it’s quite nice to be quite bright and cheerful.

ALLABOUTYOU.COM: With Christmas coming, do you have any vital cooking tips for our readers?
MARY: The sensible thing is, the sooner you know where you are for Christmas and who’s coming, to make a few lists. After all, Christmas dinner is only a big Sunday roast, isn’t it? And a lot of things can be done in advance – say you’re making a chocolate roulade you can put that in the freezer until the big day. You can also make the pudding and you can make the cake ahead of time.
ALLABOUTYOU.COM: What Christmas goodies will you be making in the run up to Christmas?
MARY: I shall be making classic mince pies for the BBC Good Food shows and I expect I’ll be doing a fairly light Christmas cake there too!
ALLABOUTYOU.COM: The last season of The Bake Off was incredibly popular. Have you enjoyed a nice rest period since?
MARY: Oh yes, but I enjoy The Bake Off. I also have a new TV programme on the go, which will come out in the spring.
ALLABOUTYOU.COM: Do you hope to do the next Bake Off?
MARY: Yes, I’ll be starting Bake Off at Christmas!

MARY: I don’t have a new year’s resolution - because I’m bound to break it!
