Don't ignore watercress!

Brilliant watercress recipes, plus some seriously good reasons to buy it

by Carol Muskoron

Here are three reasons why you should not ignore watercress - brace yourself: they're good ones...

1) Studies show that watercress has properties which help suppress breast cancer.

2) Watercress has a strong, fresh flavour which adds real zest to just about anything savoury - this may be why our magazines have so many watercress recipes.

3) If you buy a bag of Vitacress watercress from Sainsbury's from now until 9 October, five pence will be donated to The Haven breast cancer support centres.

PS As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month the Michelin-starred restaurant, The Box Tree has created two cheffy and fabulous watercress recipes to support The Haven. Check out their watercress soup with poached quail eggs , pictured here, and fillet of beef with potato and watercress.

PPS If you need one more reason to buy watercress, I have one: watercress makes everything it sits atop look pretty, even highly unattractive scrambled egg. So there! Do you ever buy it?
