Countdown to chocolate Easter eggs

Lent is nearly over! Here's my wish-list of chocolate Easter eggs

by Bernadette Fallon

It’s been a long Lent. And after the 7-week-self-induced-chocolate-denial comes the Easter feast – ha! I’m keeping myself quietly sane this week by making a list of the chocolate treats I may unleash myself on come Sunday. And keeping this diets directory page handy as well ...

Chocolate shouldn't just taste good. It should look good too. Thankfully this little Godiva number fulfils both criteria. (Yes, I do get a bit demanding towards the end of Lent.)

Godiva Beaded Egg £32; www.godiva.be and John Lewis stores nationwide

Could I count the bananas as one of my five a day? By the power of a special Lent-enduring Easter dispensation?

Thorntons Banoffee Pie £14.99; www.thorntons.co.uk and Thorntons nationwide

Love this - an egg that is so comfortable with its egg identity it comes with its own cup! Paul A Young is one of the best chocolatiers in the country and has the awards to prove it. This dark chocolate egg is made with 64% Madagascan chocolate and filled with his famous buttery sea salted caramel, served in a porcelain egg cup – with spoon!

Sea salted caramel filled egg £19.95; www.paulayoung.co.uk

Ha! A chocolate egg that is trying desperately to be something different – one that’s fried and comes with chips. The perfect non-traditional egg choice from one of my favourite chocolate brands.

Hotel Chocolat Egg & Chips £12; www.hotelchocolat.co.uk

Could there be any better end to Lent than waking up to a champagne truffle (from a box that's decorated in Swarovski crystals and you’ve forked out almost two hundred pounds for?). No? I didn’t think so. Happy Easter in anticipation.

The Chocolate Boutique Box £190; www.the-chocolate.com
