Chill out in the big smoke: London spa review

Thai Square Spa, London - Chill out in the big smoke: London spa review - Fashion&beauty - allaboutyou.com

What is it?

A five-star day spa in the heart of London’s Covent Garden. Set in a converted Victorian warehouse away from the hustle and bustle, it’s the perfect place to soothe your senses during a hard day’s shopping.

What’s it like?

As you might expect, the décor and treatments have more than a taste of Thailand about them. Buddhas recline in recesses and rooms are adorned with ancient artefacts. The building nods to its heritage with exposed brick walls and timber beams that work surprising well with the black polished marble floors and overall eastern feel. Bathed in a golden glow thanks to soft downlighting and plenty of tealights, the relaxation area couldn’t be more peaceful.

What are the facilities?

The 14 treatment rooms are individually styled, some with twinkly ceiling lights creating a ‘starry night’ effect, others with copper relaxation baths. The two vast Thai Massage Rooms each boast their own large couch. There’s none of that lying on a mat on the floor business here! If you prefer company as you pamper, book the double treatment room, or for absolute privacy, ask for the VIP suite. It has its own outdoor terrace, lounge and shower room. Relax on cream recliners in the warm, cosy relaxation area or if you prefer natural daylight, head out to the tranquil garden.

What about treatments?

Thanks to expertly trained therapists, a Thai massage here miraculously melts away muscle tension. Aches and pains I’d had for months disappeared in just one session, though unfortunately they did begin to re-emerge a few days later. Still, I felt a good few inches taller when I reluctantly lifted myself from the comfy couch and so light I practically glided down to the relaxation room. If you really want to push the boat out, try one of the Royal Treatments or Ritual Remedies, which can take up to a blissful 2½ hours. The ultimate in pampering treats.

Tips to take home?

Milled pomegranate seeds are mixed with water and worked into a gentle exfoliating paste used during the Siamese Courtiers Remedy. Get similar results with the powder formula bareMinerals Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser (£39, www.bareminerals.co.uk). It transforms into a light froth when you add water to leave skin smooth without scratching.

Why will I like it?

As there are only 14 treatment rooms, the spa never feels busy or crowded. In fact, it can feel as if you’ve got the whole place to yourself.

Anything I won’t like?

You won’t be able to use the Mosaic Steam Rasul Suite unless you book yourself in for a steam treatment, from £45. The changing facilities are on the small side, but as there are rarely more than a couple of people in there at a time, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem!

How much does it cost?

Thai massage from £72 for an hour. 90-minute Golden Maharani Facial, £150. Mini manicure, £18.
