For Her Eyes Only eyelash lift review

For Her Eyes Only Eyelash Lift review - eyelash extensions- beauty treatments - fashion & beauty - allaboutyou.com

Walking down the quaint, pedestrianised lanes of St Christopher’s Place, home to an eclectic mix of unique shops, designer boutiques, and stylish eateries, I come across Groom. The salon is set in an elegant townhouse comprising three floors of beauty rooms and it’s the ideal pit stop for those feeling all shopped out.

Therapist Carolina explains that Groom is popular for its two-therapist synchronised beauty treatments which are ideal for busy mums and those looking to fit in a quick treatment before heading back to work or out for the evening. I’m impressed with this double duty beauty idea – anything that saves me time and makes me look good too is a winner! So, to get the full experience to go alongside my manicure, I decide upon the For Her Eyes Only treatment which includes ‘lifting’ the lashes and shaping the brows.

Carolina informs me that the new lash lift is a much improved version of the once popular eyelash perm. She shows me the three slightly domed semi circle silicone pads that I have to choose from and I decide on number 2 – a middle volume lift which aims to give a natural yet effective eye opener rather than number 1 – the almost flat silicone pad, which is better for those with shorter lashes or very young women. Number 3 is a more gentle lift, good for those with very long lashes.

What happens during a treatment?

Once the pad is placed onto my upper lash line, Carolina gently combs my lashes up and over the domed silicone pad and covers them with a solution to soften and condition, then after 13 minutes she adds another – rather pungent – lotion which will set the lashes and curve them to the shape of the domed pad.

What is the different between a ‘lift’ and an eyelash ‘perm’?

Although the treatment is the same in that it still uses a gentle perming solution, Carolina explains that the rods used for the old fashioned eyelash perms often gave too much curl so lashes although curly, looked shorter. The new silicone domes give a more natural looking lift and lashes look longer for a desired doe eyed look.
It’s not a relaxing treatment and I find it a little uncomfortable, only because I want to open my eyes – especially when told not to! But it didn’t sting at all. While waiting for the lashes to set, my brows are plucked and neatened and my manicure is finished off with a fabulously soothing hand massage which stops me focussing on the fact that I need to keep my eyes closed.

How long does the treatment take?

After the lotion is removed, a tint is applied and washed off my lashes; then Carolina removes the pads and wipes my eyes over with a cleanser to remove any traces of lotion. I’m pleased to finally be able to open my eyes again and it makes seeing my glossy grey nails more of a pleasure!

What’s the verdict on the lash lift?

My lashes look thicker, darker and definitely more lifted and as I leave the salon. In fact, I can’t help but admire them in every shop window I pass on the way home and I’m delighted that I’ll have prettier lashes for up to 8 weeks! The double treatment costs £110.
