'Miniskirts, hot pants and slogan T-shirts may have looked good in our teens and twenties - but perhaps not so much now.

'However, it's vital to have fun with fashion at any age. My top tips to stay looking young are to embrace colour and pattern - and invest in quality tailored pieces. When we're younger, it's easy to get away with throwaway fashion. As we age, saving up for more expensive pieces in luxurious fabrics will look more elegant. It's also vital that you understand your body shape and dress accordingly. Investing in quality underwear, control pants, body suits and structured bras can make a huge difference to your silhouette.'

Personal stylist Lisa Talbot adds: 'Never be tempted to buy an item without trying it on first. You can't tell for certain whether a trend will work for you until you see yourself wearing it. And do check the colours you wear on your upper body. Your skin tone on your face should be clear, light and bright with no shadowing. Picking the wrong colours will drain you and leave you looking older than your years.'
