Makeup tips from London Fashion Week

It's a relatively quiet morning in Covent Garden - nary a tourist in sight - but inside the vaulted ceilings of the Freemasons' Hall...

Off Drury Lane it's a bustle of frantic activity as hair and makeup artists go into overdrive, preparing for the first show of the day at London Fashion Week. The designer is up and coming Masha Ma, makeup is by the graduates of AOFM, hair by Toni and Guy, and surrounded by gazelle-like models in impossibly high-heeled shiny red boots, I get makeover from makeup artist and AOFM senior instructor Jade.

And all I want to know is, what's in her kit? 'Mac foundation, Bobbi Brown and Benefit, mainly' she reveals. It's a good tip ladies - if it's staying on here, with catwalk lights and flashbulbs, it's staying on anywhere!

Foundation on, she goes to work on my eyes. When I want to define my eyes I do it with lots of dark eyeshadow; sometimes it works, sometimes it looks like I have two black eyes. Jade does it by highlighting the edge of my lids and half way under my eyes with black pencil, lots of mascara and a small dusting of grey shadow in the outer corners. And instantly they look a lot more defined.

Top tips for eyes: She uses highlighter under the brow, sweeping it right into the corner of the sockets, to frame my eyes and open them up.

Top tips for lips: If you can't find the shade you want, make your own. Jade creates a lovely natural-looking deep berry stain for my lips by combining a dark shade with a nude - simply take chunks of each lipstick with a lip brush, mix on the side of your hand and apply.
