Sew a heart button cushion
Transform a plain cushion with mother-of-pearl buttons
Cut two rectangles 33cm x 48cm for the back and one square 48cm x 48cm for the front. Enlarge template to desired size. Cut out leaving a heart-shaped hole to use as a stencil. Pin stencil to centre of 48cm x 48cm square of cushion fabric.
Fill in the heart-shaped area with buttons and sew securely in place. We used 50 shell buttons to create the heart. Zigzag stitch around edges. Press under and stitch a 1.5cm hem across one long edge of each back.
With right sides together, lay backs on top of cushion front so hemmed edges overlap. Pin and stitch around outer edge, taking a 1.5cm seam allowance. Trim seam allowances to 5mm and zigzag stitch to finish the seams. Turn right side out and press. Insert a 45cm x 45cm cushion pad.
