Make pretty-trimmed napkin ribbons: free sewing pattern

Napkin ribbons - home craft ideas - allaboutyou.com

You will need

• tape measure
• ruler, chalk and scissors
• pretty fabric or ribbon
• iron
• sewing machine
• scraps of reclaimed crochet and lace
• fabric dye (optional)
• plastic bowl, rubber gloves and a fork
• pretty buttons and beads, to decorate
• needle and thread

Instructions

1. Cut your chosen fabric into 30cm x 8cm pieces. Turn over a 1cm hem on all sides and press in place. Fold this strip in half lengthwise, iron again and machine-stitch around the open three edges. You should be left with a neat 3cm-wide ribbon. Or cut and hem bought ribbon to the same length.

2. To colour crochet or lace scraps: in a plastic bowl, dye the fabrics, according to the packet instructions, in contrasting shades – rubber gloves will protect your hands. Leave to dry.

3. Decorate your ribbons by placing a stack of trimmings in the centre of each one, hand-sew in place, then secure with a button or beads. For detailed instructions, to download patterns and to sign up to Sarah’s masterclasses, visit sarahmoorevintage.com.
