Design a dip-dye cushion cover: free sewing pattern

Dip dye cushion covers

We used Dylon Fabric Dye For Hand Use (£3.49, www.dylon.co.uk). Follow the instructions on the packet to mix up the dye. You will also need salt to fix the colour.

For square cushion, cut two fabric rectangles 33cm x 48cm for back and one square 48cm x 48cm for front.

Press under and stitch a 1.5cm hem across one long edge of each back. With right sides together, lay backs on top of front, so hemmed edges overlap.

Pin and stitch around outer edges, taking a 1.5cm seam allowance. Trim seam allowances to 5mm and neaten seams.

Turn right side out and press.

For rectangular cushion, cut two rectangles 28cm x 48cm for back and one 38cm x 48cm rectangle for front, and repeat process.

Wash covers and prepare two colours of dye.

Roll cover around a pole and dip-dye one end, slowly pulling out.

Rinse, wash and dry.

Repeat process with second colour on other end. Insert cushion pads, 45cm x 45cm or 45cm x 35cm.
