Materials
• 1.6m medium- to heavy-weight furnishing fabric, at least 115cm wide
• 60cm of the same weight furnishing fabric in a contrasting print, for sides
• 70cm nylon zip, to match main fabric
• Matching sewing thread
• 70cm x 70cm x 10cm cushion pad

How to make
1.
Cut one 73cm x 73cm square from the main fabric for the top. Cut two pieces for the bottom, one 73cm x 58cm and the other 73cm x 18cm. From the contrasting fabric, cut four pieces for the sides, each 73cm x 13cm. Fold under and press a 1.5cm seam allowance along one long edge of each bottom piece. Open out the folds and, with right sides together, tack along the fold. Stitch together 1.5cm at each end of the seam, leaving 70cm open, and insert zip.

2. Stitch the sides to the top, with right sides together, leaving a 1.5cm seam allowance and stopping 1.5cm before you reach the ends. Press seams open.

3. Stitch the sides to the bottom in the same direction and sequence as you did for the top. Press the seams open.

4. Stitch the corner seams, stopping at the seamline, for nice crisp corners. Press open. Next, press all the long seams flat towards the sides.

5. Unzip and turn the cover right side out. Fold exactly along each seamline to sandwich the seam allowance between the layers, and press. Topstitch 3mm from seams for an instant faux-piping effect. Insert the cushion pad and close the zip.
