Sew lacy lavender bags: free sewing pattern

It’s worth keeping the smallest scraps of lace and ribbon to make lovely items like these.

You will need

● Linen or piqué fabric
● Scrap of lace (12cm wide)
● 1 linen button per bag
● 20cm white cotton tape or ribbon
● Lavender

To make

1. Cut two rectangles measuring 18cm x 12cm from the main fabric.

2. With right sides facing, machine-stitch together three sides of the fabric, leaving the top edge open. Notch the corners of the bag using scissors and turn to right side.

3. Lay the lace over the front of the bag and stitch to the bag by hand along the top edge and sides, folding in the raw edges at the sides. Sew on the linen button.

4. Use a spoon to fill the bag with lavender. When almost full, fold approximately 1cm of the top fabric edges to the inside and topstitch in place using a sewing machine.

5. Stitch the cotton tape to the top of the bag at each corner by hand to form the hanging loop.
