Knit a mini Christmas jumper decoration: free knitting pattern

You will need

red and white 4-ply or DK yarn. We've used white as our main colour (M) and red as our contrast colour (C)
pair of 2.75mm needles

The finished decoration measures approx 10cm tall (including loop)

Abbreviations

K = knit
m1 = make 1
P = purl
rem = remaining
sts = stitches
st st = stocking stitch (knit one row across, purl one row across) 

Front

Row 1 Cast on 21 sts in main colour.
Rows 1-3:
K1 P1 rib.
Rows 4-5: Stocking stitch (st st).
Row 6: Continuing in st st, work as follows, to create the snowflake design: 10 sts in M, 1 st in C, 10 sts in M.
Row 7: 6 sts in M, 1 in C, 3 in M, K1 in C, 3 in M, 1 in C, 6 in M.
Row 8: 7 sts in M, 1 st in C, 2 sts in M, 1 st inC, 2 sts in M, 1 st in C, 7 sts in M.
Row 9: 8 sts in M, 1 st in C, 1 st in M, 1 st in C, 1 st in M, 1 st in C, 8 sts in M.
Row 10: 9 sts in M, 3 sts in C, 9 sts in M.
Row 11: 7 sts in M, 1 st in C, 1 st in M, 3 sts in C, 1 st in M, 1 st in C, 7 sts in M.
Row 12: 9 sts in M, 3 sts in C, 9 sts in M.
Row 13: 8 sts in M, 1 st in C, 1 st in M, 1 st in C, 1 st in M, 1 st in C, 8 sts in M.
Row 14: 7 sts in M, 1 st in C, 2 sts in M, 1 st in C, 2 sts in M, 1 st in C, 7 in M.

Row 16: 10 sts in M, 1 st in C, 10 sts in M.
Rows 17-20: St st in M
Row 21: Cast off 6 sts, work across next 9 sts, cast off rem 6 sts.
Row 22-23: Rejoin yarn and rib K1 P1.
Row 24: Cast off in rib.

Back

Cast on 21 sts in M.

Rows 1-3: K1 P1 rib.
Rows 4-20: Work in st st.
Row 21: Cast off 6 sts, work across next 9 sts, cast off rem 6 sts.
Row 22-23: Rejoin yarn and rib K1 P1.
Row 24: Cast off in rib.

Sleeves

Cast on 10 sts
Row 1-2: work in K1 P1 rib.
Rows 3-6: work in st st.
Row 7: K1, M1, K to last st, M1, K1 (12 sts).
Row 8: P.
Rows 9-12: St st.

Cast off and secure, leaving a long piece of yarn to sew up the sides and sleeves later.

Making up

Sew shoulder seams together, working up to and including the sides of the collar. Sew sleeves in place and sew up side seams. To make the hanging loop, make 10cm of plaited yarn in main colour and sew to inside back neck.
