Knit Christmas gift bags: free knitting pattern
These adorable little bags are perfect for smaller gifts, or use as gorgeous decorations for the Christmas tree. By Julie Carter

You will need
● Small quantities of DK yarn in the colour of your choice
● Decorations (buttons, beads, sequins)
● Ribbon
● Size 3.25mm needles
To make
Cast on 47 sts
K1, P1, rib for 4 rows
Starting with a knit row continue in stocking stitch until work measures 3cm ending with right side facing
Eyelet row
*K2, K2tog, Yf, repeat from * to last 2 sts. K2.
Next row purl
Continue in stocking stitch until work measures approx. 10cm
Cast off
Sew on any decorations at this stage.
Place sides right side to right side.
Stitch side and bottom
Turn right side out.
Thread ribbon through eyelets.
Alternative picot edge
Omit 4 rows of rib
Starting with knit row work 4 rows stocking stitch
Next row K1 * Yf, K2tog. Rep from * to end
Next row Purl
Continue in stocking stitch until eyelet row
Follow original pattern
When finished fold over top and stitch to form picot edge
Make up as before
These gift bags can be made in different sizes very easily – don’t forget you may need more wool. Stripes also work well.
