Hints and tips on using the forums

Changing fonts and font size

To post in a different font size or colour , first type your message, then highlight the text you want to change by selecting it with your mouse. Make sure it remains highlighted, then select the colour or size you want from the drop-down menu above the message entry box. If you want to change both the size and the colour, do one first then reselect the text before doing the second one. This will place the correct codes in your post so that when you click post, the text will be displayed as you wish. The other features alongside font colour and size - for example the quote, bold and underline buttons - work in the same way.

If you want to increase or decrease the size of the font as you're reading threads, your web browser can do this for you. On Windows, pressing Ctrl and the + key together will increase the font size each time they are pressed. To reduce the font size, press the Ctrl and - keys together. On Macs, pressing the Apple key and + together increases the font size, while pressing the Apple key and - together decreases the font size.

Adding photos to your posts

If you want to insert an image into your posts you can use any image already on a website, for example on your Facebook page, or Flickr account.

You will need the link to this photo – this is a link which will end in one of .jpg, .gif or .png. How to get this varies from site to site, but these general guidelines should help:
Navigate to the picture you want and as you want it to be displayed - for example the full size version of an image on your Facebook page. Right click on the image and choose the ‘Copy image location’ option.

Paste this location into your post - on Windows this can be done by pressing Ctrl and the v key together. You will then see the internet address of the image in your post. Highlight this address using your mouse, then click the 'Img' button. Now when you post your message your image will be included in your post.

Making a clickable link

To make a clickable link, highlight the web address or words you want to make clickable in your post, then move the cursor to the ‘url’ button at the top of the message box and click once. This adds before and after the highlighted words. When you post your comment these will be clickable.

Spellchecking your posts

If you are viewing the Allaboutyou website in the browsers Firefox or Google Chrome you can use the in-built spellchecker - just click on the word you want to check (it will be underlined by a red line) and this will bring up the dictionary.

Changing your profile

To edit your profile, click on your name in the box on the top right hand corner of any page and make the required changes. Once you’ve finished click on the ‘save changes’ box at the end of the page (you will need to re-enter your password to do this).
